As well as delivering the best possible education, we also have a clinical team who provide care and therapy to benefit the children in our school.
Working alongside our excellent education team at Hazel Cottage, we have an in-house Clinical Team. Our Clinical Teams consist of skilled and experienced psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and psychotherapists. Support from the Hazel Cottage School Clinical Team works within Outcomes First Group’s Rainbow Strategy as detailed above; at a specialist level our clinicians will assess and design a programme of interventions tailored to a young person’s needs. Our aim is to work collaboratively with all staff to create a specialist informed and therapeutically led environment for our young people enabling them to thrive. As a whole school offering our approach will aim to nurture, inspire and empower.
Within Options Autism we have developed a Trauma Informed Practice (TIP) Strategy to educate and support individuals in understanding the impact of trauma on a child’s early experiences, the subsequent internal world they have developed, and how this relates to the survival skills or behaviours they have developed. Working alongside our ‘TIP’ Strategy is our Neurodiversity ‘AAD’ Strategy which aims to strengthen and continually progress our approach to the provision of care, education and clinical services to autistic individuals in an environment which is conducive to their strength and needs. Our AAD (Ask, Accept, Develop) strategy recognises that despite underlying shared traits, autistic individuals are vastly different from one another.
We aim to provide our students with a safe, caring and nurturing community with clear, consistent boundaries and high expectations. Relationships are at the heart of our approach and are based on sensitive understanding of a young person’s experiences and the areas in which they require more support.
Behaviour is understood as a form of communication and all staff work together to enable the healthy physical, social, and emotional development of each student.
